Abstract: Patient-Specific 3D Models for Autogenous Ear Reconstruction

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: Smoking has been associated with increased wound healing complications and overall morbidity in multiple specialties, including plastic surgery.1 From 2005–2014, the smoking rate among U.S. adults decreased from 20.9% to 16.8%.2 This study aims to investigate first, whether smoking prevalence in the plastic surgery patient population paralleled the declining national trend and second, whether smoking remained an independent risk factor for perioperative complications after propensity matching for demographics and other comorbidities.

Patient-specific 3D Models for Autogenous Ear Reconstruction
A utogenous ear reconstruction remains one of the formidable procedures in plastic surgery. Precise 3-dimensional (3D) sculpting of the auricular construct is central to an operation, which requires countless patient experiences to hone one's surgical skill. Current methods to autogenous ear construction entail tracing the contra-lateral (unaffected) ear, if available, and using this 2D outline...
متن کاملFabrication of three-dimensional scan-to-print ear model for microtia reconstruction.
BACKGROUND Microtia is a congenital deformity of the external ear that occurs in 1 of every 5000 births. Microtia reconstruction using traditional two-dimensional templates does not provide highly detailed ear shapes. Here, we describe the feasibility of using a three-dimensional (3D) ear model as a reference. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seven children aged from 11 to 16 (6 grade III and 1 grade II...
متن کاملRehabilitation of an Auricular Defect Using Surgical Stent
Reconstruction of a facial defect is a complex modality either surgically or prosthetically, depending on the site, size, etiology, severity, age, and the patient’s expectation. Loss of an auricle, in the presence of an auditory canal, affects hearing, because the auricle gathers sound and directs it into the canal. The auricle acts as a resonator to slightly amplify lower frequency sound...
متن کاملFull retroauricular skin and fascia expansion in microtia reconstruction: a single center experience of 166 cases
Aim: Ear reconstruction is a challenge for plastic and reconstructive surgeons. The ear requires sufficient skin coverage and a three-dimensional (3D) cartilage framework. In this paper, the authors present their 10-year experience in microtia reconstruction using tissue expansion and an autogenous rib cartilage framework. Methods: Ear reconstruction was performed in 3 operative stages. During ...
متن کاملImplant-Based Prosthetic Reconstruction in Patients with Congenital Ear Defects (Technical Note)
Background and aims: Loss of all or part of the ear is one of the significant defects in the head and neck area (regardless of the cause) that can result from trauma, cancer, congenital diseases, or surgery to remove benign tumors. These defects can be reconstructed with the help of surgical procedures or cosmetic prostheses. However, due to the complex structure of the ear, reconstructive surg...
